Well since I’m on the Christmas topic today I thought I’d share my first completed homemade gifts. I’m on a roll… got the dolls done before Halloween. These two are for my nieces, and just have to make one more for London. I’m also going to be making them matching LondyLoos. Then I’ll have all the little girls in my family done!!! (I know you think I’m crazy but if you want to make gifts this year you have to start early or you’ll get stressed out and head to the mall last minute…. only to get more stress out by that chaos)
So I bought these patterns from Bit of Whimsy Prims on Etsy. I wasn’t sure how well the Jane doll would turn out with me at the sewing machine…. BUT I LOVE THEM!!! They have such personality and I loved accessorizing them. I gave Tessa’s doll pearl earrings and a bracelet and Layla’s doll a pearl necklace and a flower in her hair. London saw these dolls and wouldn’t put them down (I had to hide them) So I know that they will be a hit.
Now I’m actually thinking of buying the Finnegan Fox pattern for my nephews!
*let me know what you think or if your inspired to buy a pattern yourself, click on the Notes and Comments link at the top of this post to leave a comment.
Ok so my general rule of thumb is to wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas (I mean Thanksgiving is great too I don’t want to steal its thunder) BUT…. I didn’t decorate for fall this year and I’m not having Thanksgiving dinner at my house… so maybe I can get away with it this year.
I want my house to be a Christmas extravaganza… but done in a tasteful and stylish way of course. I mean I don’t want it to look like a Christmas store threw up in my house. So I was just dreaming of ways to go over the top this year and I thought why not vinyls.
Vinyls are so popular now for seasonal decor or for year around. They apply easy to the wall and won’t damage anything when removed. They are also A LOT cheaper then when they first hit the scene…. you can get some for around $15. So I think I’m gonna go with some large snowflakes for my living room! Gosh I’m so excited!!!
Merry Christmas Square, Reindeer, Blue Snowflakes, Gray Snowflakes (click on the name to find where to purchase the ones shown above)
There serious are so many awesome Christmas vinyls so just go on etsy and type “Christmas wall vinyl” in the search bar.
*If you end up purchase one let me know which one you chose!
My first design dilemma!
This was summit by my cousin in-law Molly (is that what you call someone who marries your cousin?). They have a wonderful old home that they are bring back to life. Look at that molding!!!! (if I remember right that was painted over and they stripped it… talk about work)
OK lets talk about how to make it work and feel better for Molly and the fam. As of right now all the furniture looks a little jammed along the two walls… its all facing the TV as you can tell by Emma’s stare in that direction (lol London is exactly the same). Now I’m not sure if this is possible with the cable wire an all that stuff, but I would place the TV in the opposite corner with the end table and lamp are now. Then I would place the Tan recliner in the corner the TV currently is. Then I would center the sofa on the same walls they are already on. It would make the room more conversational. Its hard to tell how well that would work by just looking at the picture, but she could try the space planner online ( I used it for my master bedroom).
Now the curtains were another thing at was bothering Molly. I had to think about this one for a while, because I was thrown off with the awesome molding. BUT I went back to my rule of thumb when it comes to curtains….
* WHEN IT COMES TO CURTAINS: hang them a few inched from the ceiling… yes the ceiling…. and put the rod about 4-5 inch pass the window on each side. This will make your room feel taller and your windows look bigger!!!
I went with a solid orange because the sofas are a pattern and because we need to add a pop of color to this room. Molly is personality is fun and outgoing and she’s not afraid of color (she painted her sun room the coolest color purple), but this room isn’t really showing that.
Then I found some bold patterned fabrics for the pillow on the sofa I would cover the ones that are on them right now and maybe add a few smaller ones through out (ikea has small pillow forms for about $3) These fabrics are traditional patterns but they are very large scale which makes them modern.
For the walls I think it would be fun to get a Large vintage letter like the D above (seriously Molly get that) Then I found in the same Etsy shop vintage horse ribbons and I thought they would look great placed in a shadow boxes and hung on the wall (Molly is a horse girl )
I also threw in a folding coffee table so you can easily put it away when the kids are running around but bring it back out when its adult time… I would just display some cool old books on top of it (nothing the kids could mess up)

pillow fabric: Fabric.com (red, blue, green feather, orange, green damask)
Orange Curtains: Ikea
Coffee table options: Target (tray table)
Wall art: Esty (vintage letter, vintage Horse ribbon)
Ok I was seriously just complaining that I don’t know how to decorate for fall in a way that will go with my style. I want to be able to decorate for holidays… because i love them… but I don’t want it to clash with my home decor.
Then I came across these ridiculously beautiful pumpkins from I Love to Create Blog! Goshhh they would look so fabulous in a cluster on my kitchen table.

3 years ago today I married my best friend. It’s crazy how just in 3 years your life can change so much! We have two beautiful children and bought a house that we are slowly turning into a home. In the mitts of this whirlwind called life I honestly have to step back every once in a while and pinch myself…. this is my life!!! If you don’t have that and want that feeling for yourself its not really that complicated…. Put God first, then everything else follows (Matt. 6:33).
Let me just brag about my amazing husband…. he is an incredibly hard worker, a great father, has an amazing gift to stay calm in situations that make me freak out, he is a great singer, guitar player and worship leader, and he makes me laugh so hard it hurts not to mention how good looking he is :) (sappy I know, but it happens when your in love)
Ps. Our wedding rocked this world and my amazing photographer captured every moment of it! David Molnar check out his site it’s awesome.
1.Knit Pillow : This pillow is amazing… seriously isn’t it beautiful. You have to check out Precious Knits, they have so many great pillows.
* If you want the DIY version you can use old sweaters you don’t wear any more or pick one up at a thrift store and make a pillow cover!
2. Modern Teapot: This teapot makes me want to have tea right now! But you should buy a cool tea pot or a rad mug…. it makes drinking those hot drinks on cold nights that much better.
3. Wall Mounted Fireplace: So you weren’t blessed with a wood burning fireplace or even a gas one. Believe it or not there are many options that don’t require tons of money and remodeling. This wall mount fireplace uses gel fuel.
4.Faux Fur Throw: Gosh nothing says cozy like a fur throw… that’s all I gotta say about that.
5. Heather Gray Slippers: I cannot get through winter without a good pair of slippers. My old ones have seen better days and i think I just found an even better replacement pair :)
6. Sheepskin Rug: (faux of course) I want to get two of these and place them in front of our wardrobes… that way our toes are warm when we are picking out our outfits in the morning.
7. Indoor BonFire: Yes you are looking at this right. This is a free-standing fireplace. It uses Liquid bio ethanol so there is no smoke or ash. I love this…. but not the most child friendly…. But check out Overstock they have tons of amazing fireplaces like this one. *The wall mounted ones are more child friendly.

So it’s about that time of year…. where I start thinking about Christmas gifts. Now you might think I’m crazy (Yes I know Halloween hasn’t happened yet)… but if you hand make a lot of the gifts you HAVE to start months in advance. I thought I’d inspire you to have some money (Although it will take more time) and make some Christmas gifts. There are so many awesome options out there and people will actually like them! I’ll be sharing a few great handmade gift ideas that anyone can do over the next few week.
So I’ve been itching to start cross stitching again… (when I say again I mean i haven’t done it since I was probably 10 years old) I stumbled upon the best thing that ever happened to cross stitching….. and wabisabi… Grace has created the most wonderful cross stitch patterns I have ever seen. The only reason I haven’t bought one already is I can’t choose which one/ones I want! But i will force myself to make a decision very soon… and will be watching my favorite TV shows while cross stitching a And Wabisabi design…. ahh I like the sound of that.
But Please check out her shop it will have you smiling :)
Ok so I realized it’s good to give people options (ummm although I’m not even sure my uncle wants to change his dining room lol) The first Bachelor Dining post I did was on the darker side, so I wanted to do a lighter option. This is defiantly less daring, but either one would look fabulous.
Traditional Wood Table: You can’t go wrong with a table like this great color and very classic (overstock/ price $286)
Modern Wood Table: O how I love this table! It also has a great classic color but very clean modern lines. I love how the legs are juxtaposed to each other… did you notice that? (CB2/ price $499)
Rectangle Chandelier: This light mimics the shape of the table and would distribute light evenly across the table. Love how simple things make big statements. (overstock/ price $189.99)
Traditional White Chairs: You can find these chairs everywhere! These are very traditional, but won’t look old or boring with all the modern details going on in this room. (Ballard Designs/ price $269 for two)
White Tabouret Chairs: I used these in the first Bachelor Dining post and its because I love them. And I’m still in shock about how cheap they are… o and they come in 3 colors! (overstock/ price $169.99 for 4)
Oriental Rug: I love the subtle pattern on this rug and there is no mistaking that it is traditional… but its beautiful. (Crate and Barrel/ price $899 for 9’ x 12’)
Poem Rug: Ok so it’s actually called Le Poeme rug… but we can just call it poem rug. I just think this rug is fun, I would love to have this in my house some where. The great part it that it’s indoor/outdoor so it’s made to take a beating. (Ballard Designs/ price $428 for an 8’ x 10’)
Colored Vases: Now I’m just trying to show that there should be pops of color in such a neutral room and these vases would work well. (CB2 / about $44 for all three)
Teal Suit Fabric: This fabric would be an option for the curtains. It would be a bold pop of color like I was just talking about, its also suiting fabric like the options in the previous post. This color would need to show up in other areas so it wouldn’t look out of place. (fabrics.com/ price $9.98 a yard we’d need 5 yards)
Light Green Curtains: These would just keep the whole room soft. They would also pull from the sage in the poem rug. (ikea/ price $49.99)
Now the total for this room would be the same as the first right under $1,200! *now that using my favorite choices of this room which are: traditional table, green curtains, poem rug, & metal chairs.
My uncle just got a brand new kitchen, its gorgeous! The only down fall to a kitchen that nice is…. you realize the rest of our house doesn’t match up. I went to visit the other day and my mind was racing with ideas… mainly for the dining room (well that first). He is a bachelor and has a little boy. His house is an older house with the original wood floors and fabulous molding. I wanted to keep the traditional feel but with a more masculine and modern approach. O and he has a large collection of wine, hence the wine accessories.
Black Dining Table: This table is beautiful very traditional, but the black gives it a fresh modern look. (overstock/ price $269.99)
Metal Rim Chandelier: Talk about understated elegance. This is the prefect fit to blend traditional and modern…. and masculine. (overstock/ price $115.99)
White Tabouret Chairs: These chairs are a STEAL!! They are very durable… because they are made out of steal. Perfect for those little messy eaters no upholstery to worry about staining. (overstock/ price $169.99 for 4)
Galvanized Chair: O these chairs are to die for. I love how they look like they’ve been around forever. But your defiantly gonna have to pay a pretty penny to get these chairs.(crate & barrel/ price $199 per chair)
Leaning Wine Rack: This acrylic leaning wine rack is super modern, but placed on top of an antique side table and you got an amazing combination. My grandmother is refinishing the perfect piece to accompany this.(CB2/ price $119)
Marble Wine Chiller: Not much to say other than this room wanted this great accessory. (Crate and Barrel/ price $24.95)
Curtain Fabric: I wanted to go with with suiting material, to give it a masculine feel. My original idea was to go with a dark gray pin stripe, but just in case that is to daring my second choice was a white herringbone. Both of these fabric are a silk suiting fabric so they will hang beautifully. (Fabrics.com/ price $9.98 a yard… we would need 5yards)
Spy Mirrors: These mirrors are such a fun play on the typical mirror. The convex lens plays with light… sorta like a fun house mirror. (which my little cousin would have a ball with) I love the idea of hang a few of these together. ( CB2/ price $69.95)
Tree wallpaper: This wallpaper would go above the chair rail in the dining room, once again it is the perfect mix of tradition, modern and masculine. (Wallpaper Wholesalers/ price $58.09 per bolt, we’d need two)
Striped Rug: I need something to ground the rug and that’s what rugs are for. I like the modern look and the colors work great. I think it will add interest having a square rug with a round table. (ikea/ price $279)
The total for this room is under $1,200!!! How amazing is that! (o that’s using the white metal chairs)
